Evaluation

For this essay I will be discussing the effectiveness and practicality of my website and whether the whole project meant each of the criterions.

I personally think my website was successful in for filling its purpose, to make a practical website that can be used to our client’s customers. The best aspect of this project I think was the layout and design of the website, I used professional colours and text and used a picture or slideshow on each of the pages to ensure it’s still interesting and eye catching for the audience. However, there were also somethings that require improvement if I were to make my project of a high standard, for example, I don’t think the overall website is very detailed and should’ve included thing’s like any social media accounts to further promote the business; the home page also didn’t have too much information on the company itself.

During this project I think my time management was somewhat good, spending a lot of time on the research and production stages of the assignment which I personally think are the two most important. Although, spending so much time on these two stages meant the quality of the ideas page isn’t at all very good which may bring my grade done due to not reaching the criteria for that particular phase. For this assignment I only worked with one of person, my client, I think that we worked well together as whenever I needed information into the business she’d happily provide.

The way in which I found information out about massage and massage therapy was through my client and by conducting a lot of secondary research, for example, I looked into other massage website to both get ideas for the layout and interactivity for my own website but I also learnt about the different types of massage and used that when explaining what each different therapy was in my ‘treatments’ page. I made sure to make my website relevant to the client’s business by using pictures of different treatments, although it was difficult to make the website unique to their business as I didn’t have any pictures of the building/location and they don’t currently have a logo so I instead had to use pictures offline which could make the website seem a little unprofessional. To get inspiration and insight into other websites I compared three different ones I found relating to massage (The Massage people London, Mobile Wellness and Massage Moose). The website in which I got the most inspiration from was ‘Massage Moose’ I used the same sort of layout and colour scheme, using pastel yellow for the banner and black and white pictures on each page, whereas, I got the idea of using a slideshow from the website ‘The massage people London’ as they used one on their homepage.

Furthermore, one stage that could use some improvement is the planning page. One this page I have mostly looked at the demographics for the website, this was very helpful as it gave me a rough idea of what the target audience, I should be aiming my project toward. By knowing my target audience, I could adapt my website in a way that appeals to them, for example, as I had an adult audience I tried to keep very thing looking professional yet still eye catching and informative; hopefully attracting them to the business itself. However, this was the only planning I had conducted. I think the website would’ve benefitted from some primary research (e.g. a questionnaire, focus group, survey and so on), as I could’ve gotten insight from my target audience to see what attracts them to a website and use that to create my own, instead of going off only my own knowledge and what I thought would be appealing.

Additionally, I personally think the stage that was most effective was production. This was the stage in which I spent most of the time working on, getting it up to a standard that I was happy with and that met all the criterions. By using all my research into other websites, I was successfully able to create my own using muse and photoshop, making my own banners, slideshows, editing all the pictures used etc. Although I am happy with the outcome of my website, I would’ve preferred for it to be slightly more interactive, for example, I would’ve liked to of had some dropdown menus to further direct the audience to more informative about the business. Also, I think that I should’ve used some pictures of the business location instead of using pictures off of google as it would make the site more professional and would also give the audience a look into the business before booking an appointment.

In conclusion, I think that my final piece was very successful in for filling its purpose and reaching most of the criterions. From doing this project I’ve learnt a lot of new skills and knowledge that I hope to use in future and assignments and work. Also, I have been able to critically identify my strengths and weakness throughout this essay which shows that I know where to improvement for the next time we do something like this.
